Welcome to the N1 - L3 mission page

This page is intented to give you an oversight of what a Soviet N1-L3 mission would have been. Between 1969 and 1972, the Soviet Union made four attempts to launch their giant N1 rocket to beat the American in the so called Moon Race. Had they succeeded, a nominal mission would have followed the chronological steps of these drawings to send one lonely cosmonaut to the Moon.

The drawings were made by Serge Gracieux from the Cité de l'Espace in Toulouse. Apart from being a talentuous artist, Serge is also a fine modeler. Among his realization is the 1/33 MIR space Station (attached to the space shuttle) currently exhibited at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris.

Serge was also the MIR project leader for the installation of the full scale mockup of the MIR space station at the Cité de l'Espace here in Toulouse.
