GEMINI 1/24

The GEMINI spacecraft was used in the mid sixties as a follow on to Project MERCURY (the capsule is very similar and was built by the same contractor, Mc Donnell Douglas). It could carry two astronauts on board (only one in the MERCURY spacecraft) and was extensively used for the preparation of the APOLLO project to land a man on the Moon.

Project GEMINI had several purposes:

• Long duration flights to simulate a lunar journey, up to 14 Days for GEMINI VII
• Ability to manoeuver into orbit and change orbit
• Extra Vehicular Activity
• Rendez-vous with an other spacecraft, the first rendez-vous took place between GEMINI VII and GEMINI VI
• Rendez-vous and Docking with an other spacecraft, very important for future docking between the APOLLO Command & Service Module and the LEM. The first docking took place during the GEMINI VIII mission with an Agena stage

The model presented here is a 1/24 Revell model I bought in the sixties. Throught the magic of image processing I have been able to put it in space. I have bought a recent re-isuue of this model that I plan to build with the inclusion of external details and the Agena stage From Realspace
